Take me out to the Ballgame…

Spring has come in like a lamb this year and keeps pulling back to give way to the cold.  While most of us have seen enough snow, floods and devastation this winter, we can all agree, it’s time to feel the warm sunshine and get ready for some baseball!

Spring is synonymous with spring training and the Opening Day of baseball season.  This year Opening Day was a momentous one. It had been 50 years – long years – since every  baseball team in the Majors had the exact same opening day.  Though a bit heartbreaking because this occasion also occurred 50 years ago, just days after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

baseballBack in 1968 Every major sporting event was either cancelled, pushed back or postponed.  It was a like three day moratorium on sports.  President Lyndon Johnson had called for April 7th, a Sunday to be a day of National mourning.  It shook up the sports world as much as the rest of the world.  In a completely unprecedented  move all teams ceased and a silent tribute to the memory of Martin Luther King Jr was observed.

However, in 1968 it was a little more difficult to push back — what was and feels like a National American holiday– Opening Day.  Moreover, during those times the game might have been played if it wasn’t for players like Jackie Robinson protesting against the Dodgers President who seemed to have a total lack of knowledge of the impact on the community at large, eventually the Dodgers President relented.

On April 10th, 1968 became the first time in history that all 20 Major League teams unanimously came together and opened the season.  It was a glorious day, and got me in the mood to look and the upcoming movies.

Super Troopers 2 (2018)Super Troopers 2

Comedy| Crime| Mystery

The film takes place in the fictional town of Spurbury, Vermont, near the Canada–US border. The plot centers on five Vermont state troopers who seem to have more of a knack for pranks than police work. Most of their time is spent devising new ways of messing with the heads of the people they pull over and hazing “Rabbit,” a new recruit. They also find time to torment their easily infuriated radio dispatcher, Rodney Farva, who has been exiled from patrol work because he was involved in a fight with several students during a questionable traffic stop of a school bus, which is later revealed during the credits. Their days of pranking and slacking off are cut short when the troopers suddenly find themselves attempting to solve a murder, bust a drug-smuggling ring, and avoid having their post eliminated by the state’s impending budget cut — resulting in their transfer, or quitting and opening up a roller disco.
